I got a phone call from the post office this morning that our chicks had arrived.
I’ve never mail-ordered chickens before. Our last batch came from Tractor Supply, and while they did well for us the past three years, we wanted to try something a little more suited to the climate here.
We settled on Barred Plymouth Rocks, which are supposed to be cold-hardy, well-mannered, and good layers. For our use, I wanted about a dozen hens, and Brother Harold wanted about the same, so we settled on a batch of 20 pullets. We ordered from Cackle Hatchery, which seems to be a reputable outfit located in Missouri.
Here’s a short video of the new girls coming to their new home.
